The 4-tier structural tree governing policy inheritance, IAM, and resource isolation in GCP.
1. The 4-Tier GCP Resource Hierarchy
| Level | Component | DevOps Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 (Top) | Organization Node | Represents the entire company (e.g., company.com). Central point of IAM control and compliance. |
| Level 2 | Folders | Group related projects by Department (Engineering, Marketing) or Environment (Dev, Staging, Prod). |
| Level 3 | Projects | The fundamental organizing entity. All cloud resources must belong to exactly one project. Billing is attached here. |
| Level 4 (Leaf) | Resources | Individual service instances: Compute Engine VMs, Cloud Storage buckets, GKE clusters, BigQuery datasets. |
