AI Network Labs 03 — Lab: Small Office LAN
One router, one switch, three PCs: plan the addressing, write the expected IOS, prompt the build and verify with a ping.
The "hello world" of networking: one router, one switch, three PCs, one subnet. You'll plan it, prompt it, and prove it with a ping.
1 · Plan
| Device | Model | Interface | Address | Gateway |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| R1 | 2911 | Gi0/0 | 192.168.10.1/24 | — |
| SW1 | 2960-24TT | — | — | — |
| PC-A | PC-PT | Fa0 | 192.168.10.11/24 | 192.168.10.1 |
| PC-B | PC-PT | Fa0 | 192.168.10.12/24 | 192.168.10.1 |
| PC-C | PC-PT | Fa0 | 192.168.10.13/24 | 192.168.10.1 |
Cabling: R1 Gi0/0 → SW1 Gi0/1; PC-A/B/C → SW1 Fa0/1–3.
2 · Expected router configuration
Write this down before prompting:
enable
configure terminal
hostname R1
interface GigabitEthernet0/0
description LAN to SW1
ip address 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0
no shutdown
end
write memoryRouter interfaces are shut down by default. Forgetting no shutdown is the single most common reason this lab fails.
3 · Prompt
Build a small office in Packet Tracer:
- R1 (2911), SW1 (2960-24TT), PC-A, PC-B, PC-C (PC-PT).
- Cable R1 Gi0/0 to SW1 Gi0/1, and the PCs to SW1 Fa0/1, Fa0/2, Fa0/3.
- R1 Gi0/0 = 192.168.10.1/24, hostname R1, description "LAN to SW1".
- PCs = .11, .12, .13 /24, gateway 192.168.10.1.
Show me the IOS commands before running them.
Then prove PC-A can ping PC-C and PC-A can ping R1, using sendPdu and getPduResults.4 · What the AI should do
addDevice ×5 → addLink ×4
configureIosDevice (R1) → configurePcIp ×3
setSimulationMode → sendPdu (PC-A → PC-C) → stepSimulation → getPduResults
sendPdu (PC-A → R1) → stepSimulation → getPduResults5 · Verify like an engineer
Ask the AI to run these on R1 through configureIosDevice and paste the output:
show ip interface brief
show running-config interface GigabitEthernet0/0Gi0/0 must read up / up. If it reads administratively down, the no shutdown line didn't run.
Exercise
Add PC-D on Fa0/4 using DHCP instead of a static address. What has to exist on R1 first? (Answer in Lab 07.)
ExerciseKnowledge check
R1's Gi0/0 shows 'administratively down'. Which command is missing?
